Security FAQ's

What kind of experience, if any, should I have before jumping into Security Certification training?

Answer!
When it comes to security training, the answer to this question is not clear cut. If you are interested in Network Security, you should already have a good networking background that includes day to day network support experience. The more you know about the Operating Systems you will be working with, the better. For example, if you primarily work within a Windows environment, you should have training and experience in Windows.

If you are more interested in Security from a management and operations perspective, you should have management experience, but not necessarily the nuts and bolts experience that a network person should have.

What would be a good starting point?

Answer!
If you are a technician and need a good starting point for Security training, consider Security+ from CompTIA. This is a vendor neutral program that is rich in content and does not require vast amounts of previous experience, just a good understanding of networking concepts in general.

If CISSP is your goal, Security+ is still a good choice, especially if you don't have the 3 to 5 years expereince that CISSP requires. There is no certification track for CISSP, so you need a way to get the skills that CISSP certification covers. CISSP covers a very wide range of topics and is designed to pull together existing experience while introducing new enterprise operations concepts that even experienced network administrators may not have thought about before.

What if I want to get down to the nut and bolts of hacking techniques?

Answer!
Certified Ethical Hacker from EC-Council is an in-demand course that gets to the heart of the matter! This intensive five day course will immerse you in a multi platform environment where you will examine in detail the world of the hacker, and how to protect your environment from their attacks.

Does FLS offer a guarantee should a student fail the certification test?

Answer!
We know your time is valuable, so we do our absolute best to make sure that you pass your exam on the first try. We have a great track record of achieving just that! In the unlikly event that a student does not pass the exam on their first attempt, we encourage them to re-sit the course if possible. FLS has allways offered a 100% satisfaction guarantee for all certification classes. Any student can audit any course for free that they have previously taken, all they need to supply is their course materials.

What training materials do you use?

Answer!
It depends on the course. For the Security+ program, we use courseware approved by CompTIA. For the CISSP course, courseware is custom developed. For CCSP, we use Cisco Press materials and custom materials. For EC-Council courses such as Certified Ethical Hacker, courseware is custom developed by EC-Council. For Microsoft Security courses, certified Microsoft Official Courseware is used.

Do the instructors provide sample test questions/study guides directly related to the CISSP exam?

Answer!
Yes. Our instructors stay up to date on the demands of the related certification exams. Test preparation is an important part of all courses at FLS. For the CISSP course, students take a practice test the last day of class that consists of 250 multiple-choice questions. This test is similar in structure and format to the real CISSP test.

What are the hours of training for all courses?

Answer!
Typical classroom hours are from 8:30am - 5:30pm. For onsite training, hours are flexible and can be designed to meet our customers needs.

What is the average class size for FLS courses?

Answer!
It is important to our Students success to conduct courses in intimate environments that foster casual, non-intimidating, one-on-one instructor/student relationships. We are not interested in large class sizes that would negatively affect anyones ability to ask questions and get personal attention. For those reasons, there is a maximum of 12 students accepted for most of our security classes.

What is the Cancellation/Rescheduling Policy?

Answer!
Payment or Purchase Order for all courses is required upon registration. A 50% cancellation fee may be required for cancellations made less than 10 business days prior to the first day of class. You can reschedule at least 10 business days prior to the class date without a penalty.
